Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Laith Shakir Rasheed Al-Qarawee, and under the supervision of the Head of the Prosthetic and Orthotics Engineering Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Muslim Mohsen Ali, the prosthetic laboratory received another patient who has a below-knee amputation and problems with the prosthetic limb, as he suffers from flattening of the limb, which is one of the obstacles against using the prosthetic limb and causing pain in the back and foot.
The laboratory staff, under the supervision of Mr.Hussein Abd Zaid a technician staff in the department, showed the students how to take a mold of the patient and the necessary measurements to make an ideal prosthetic limb. After that, the students diagnosed the patient’s condition and took a mold of him, which is the first stage of making the limb and completing the steps of making the limb by casting and sculpting the mold from gypsum, according to the measurements that had been taken from the patient, then pouring the plastic and assembling the entire limb, so that the practical experience of making the limb in an integrated manner and deliver it completely to the patient became clear to the students. It is part of the efforts of the College of Engineering and the University of Karbala to actively contribute to community service work through Training students to interact with real cases and using high-quality limbs, and the real goal is to encourage students to engage in volunteer work to serve the community.
